Abbotsford Seniors Peer Support History

Abbotsford Peer Support for Seniors (APSS) is a seniors' volunteer organization that has been in operation since 1992. We are a non-profit support service ready to help seniors in Abbotsford. We are a non-profit charity registered with the Government of Canada.

Over the past 20+ years, several hundreds of our trained volunteers have served over one thousand seniors in Abbotsford. Our Board of Directors consists of all trained volunteers with years of experience in one-to-one peer support service.

Seed money came from Healthy Aging and paid for the basic supplies for the first training session. After the program was underway an application was made to New Horizons who then funded the program for three years. The Seniors' Foundation of B.C. and the Soroptomist Club have also made donations over the years. Fraser Health Authority provides funding for the Senior Peer Support Training. APSS also receives financial assistance from United Way Fraser Valley and the Province of B.C.

Our Mission:

We believe that every senior, regardless of race or religion, has the right to live a full, independent, dignified life. Further, we believe that peer support volunteers, being of similar age and experience, can act as the vehicle for seniors to help them regain or maintain their independence allowing them to live with dignity.
